The Ground Shakes
When the Ground Shakes is a declaration of movement already in motion. It rejects the idea that Black people are suddenly discovering our history, our power, or our worth. We have always known. We are history manifested—generations of knowledge, creativity, strength, strategy, and brilliance carried forward and unpackaging itself for this moment.
While some are consumed with wrestling the country backward and erasing pieces of our history, something else is happening right beneath their feet. Black voices are getting louder. Black creativity continues to stretch beyond every box built to contain it. Black men and women are standing in the beauty of who we are without aspiring to become anyone else. And perhaps most powerful of all, we are reaching for one another.
The song plays with a warning wrapped in confidence: you are not shocking us. We see the plan. But while so much attention is being spent looking backward, new pages are already being drafted. Every person who stands when called, every person who understands the power of strategic stillness, every hand reaching for another adds weight to the movement.
Because history isn't only something that happened to us.
We are making it now.
And when a people move together, the ground shakes.
