You’ve learned the two positions. You know where the notes are. Then you put on a backing track and play the same things you played before you learned any of it.

More shapes won’t fix that. What fixes it is a small set of things you can play without thinking, and knowing where they sit. This book is that set.

The 2 Position Guitar Woodshed is a practice book, not a method. It has 62 short patterns, laid out in both positions wherever they fit.

WHAT’S IN IT

– Arpeggios: triads and sevenths in both positions, from the root, the 3rd and the 5th.

– Pentatonic cells: the phrases that actually turn up in solos, not just the scale.

– Targeting chord tones: landing the 3rd or 7th on the change, and guide-tone lines.

– Approach notes and enclosures: how a line arrives.

– Modal phrases: one for each mode, built around the note that makes it sound like itself.

– Triad pairs and double stops: small shapes, open sounds.

– Lines over changes: a blues, a minor blues, a ii–V–I and a turnaround, bar by bar.

– Joining the positions: two octaves without moving your hand.

– Sequences: technique work that also teaches you the neck.

– The routine: a 30-minute session and a rotation plan, so nothing gets learned once and forgotten.

There’s no notation and no tab. Every pattern is on fretboard diagrams labelled with intervals, so it works in any key, with the order to play the notes printed underneath.

It opens with a one-page recap of the two positions, so you can start here. It’s written as the companion to The 2 Position Guitar Scale System, and it makes the most sense once you’ve spent some time with that.
