This relaxing design was inspired by the beautiful south-east region of South Australia. Think rolling plains, gentle breezes and the dappled light of lazy afternoons. The Gambier Shawl is the perfect project for TV knitting, with nothing trickier than garter stitch, stockinette and some simple recurring lace. But if you also like eye-catching knitwear that is highly wearable, then this is the shawl for you!
FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Approximately 148cm (58 ¼”) wingspan and 68cm (26 ¾”) deep at centre, relaxed after blocking.
YARN
Gum Blossom Yarns Platypus Merino Sock (80% Merino, 20% Nylon; 373m {409yds}/100g)
1 skein Colour A: Black Bean 0 colourway (light green)
1 skein Colour B: Black Bean 1 colourway (mid to light green)
1 skein Colour C: Black Bean 2 colourway (mid to dark green)
1 skein Colour D: Black Bean 3 colourway (dark green)
OR 4x100g skeins fingering weight sock yarn in a monochromatic gradient.
Depending on your gauge and choice of yarn, you will need approximately:
70g of Colour A,
55g of Colour B,
60g of Colour C and
65g of Colour D, based on the maximum amounts needed for test knit samples. However, you may wish to ensure you have at least 10% extra yarn to avoid running out.
If you’re choosing to create your own gradient from different sock yarns, Colour A in the pattern will refer to your lightest colour, Colour B the second lightest, Colour C the second darkest, and Colour D the darkest colour.

3.75mm (US 5) circular needle, or size to obtain gauge (100cm {40”} cable length recommended)

GAUGE
20 stitches x 34 rows = 10cm (4”) in stockinette stitch, knit flat and relaxed after blocking.
Stockinette stitch = knit every right side row, purl every wrong side row.
