Every adult has a hook. Maybe it is "You're not my real teacher." Maybe it is an eye roll in front of your boss, or a kid filming you on a phone. You will handle those moments better if you name them on a calm afternoon instead of finding out in the middle of one.

What's included:

• Part 1: a checklist of common hooks, plus space to name why your top two get to you

• Part 2: how your body tells you that you are hooked

• Part 3: a short calm plan (what you say to yourself, your one sentence to the kid, what you do with your body, what you will not do)

• Part 4: a tag out plan with a partner and a signal

• Part 5: an after a hard one reflection for the same day

How I'd use it:

This is private. Nobody grades it, and I say that out loud when I hand it out. It works on your own, in a PLC, or as the reflection piece after a staff PD on calm classrooms. I'd fill it in during the first month of school and look at it again in January, when everybody is tired.

Who it's for: Teachers and paras. Any grade level.

What you download: one printable PDF, 3 pages, US Letter.

This is an educational resource. It does not replace your school's crisis plan, safety procedures, or any training your district requires.
