Edward Miller (1735-1807) - Sonata V in D Major

Discover Sonata V in D Major, a graceful chamber work by the English composer Edward Miller. Miller was active as a performer and composer in Georgian England and worked as a flautist in Handel’s orchestra in his youth. This sonata comes from his set of Six Sonatas, in which the final three are conceived for harpsichord with an accompanying melodic instrument rather than as solo works.

Although the title mentions violin and German flute, the melodic part seems primarily conceived for violin, featuring double stops and textures that may require adaptation on the flute.

Sonata V was first performed by the London Obbligato Collective at the National Gallery, London, in November 2025, using harpsichord and baroque flute.
