These mittens come in a range of sizes to suit most requirements AND feature a novel and rather lovely thumb construction. It is worked in the round completely top down, including the thumb, and the decreases create a thumb that appears from the centre of your palm (as your thumb does anatomically) for extra dexterity in these thick mittens.

thenar: relating to the rounded fleshy part of the hand at the base of the thumb(the ball of the thumb).

Pattern is fully written out with the decorative panel also charted. Links to tutorials for recommended cast on, how to join the thumb etc.

• cable needle (alternatively the cables can we worked as left and right twist stitches if you are familiar with that technique and prefer it)

Sizes are approx. finished hand circumferences:
6 - 8 years: 17.5cm/6 ¾ in
8 years-woman’s S: 18.5cm/7 ¼ in
Woman’s M: 21cm/8 ¼ in
Woman’s L: 22.5cm/8 ¾ in

Yarn and yardage
I used Rowan Cocoon 80% merino, 20% mohair, in the colourway Breeze.

6-8 yrs: 98yds/91m (1 ball)
8yrs-woman’s S – 133yds/125m (2 balls – note that it is possible to complete this size with one ball of the suggested yarn, but it is very close. The extra ball & yardage is allowed for swatching, wastage and tension differences.)
Woman’s M: 157yds/125m (2 balls)
Woman’s L: 180yds/165m (2 balls)

Gauge
15 stitches and 23 rows = 10 cm/4in in stockinette
