Overmorrow

DESCRIPTION

Overmorrow is a classic-looking cabled pullover with an unexpected twist: it blends the crisp structure of a saddle shoulder with the smooth shaping of a circular yoke. True to its name, the sweater bridges past and future, pairing old-time charm with a modern approach to garment construction.

Overmorrow is worked seamlessly from the top down in DK-weight yarn. Asymmetrical mirrored cables run the entire length of the sleeves from the neckline, over the shoulders, and down to the ribbed cuffs. The body features wide cable panels while reverse-stockinette panels at the sides provide an opportunity for waist shaping. Optional bust darts hidden between the cables allow you to tailor the fit even further. A neat neckline with a crochet slip-stitch foundation gives the sweater a polished finish inside and out.

Overmorrow is available in 10 sizes from XS to 6X; choose your size based on upper-bust circumference. Both written and charted instructions are provided for all cable patterns, with measurements given in metric and US units.

Choose a size based on upper bust circumference (measured at the underarm level above any breast tissue). This size-inclusive cardigan is intended to be worn with approx. 5 cm / 2" of positive ease.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find test knitters for sizes 2X–3X and 5X–6X. If you'd like to knit any of these sizes, I would be happy to provide you the pattern free of charge in exchange for your feedback. Contact me for more information!

GAUGE

• 19.5 sts × 32 rnds = 10 cm / 4" in stockinette on larger needles, blocked
• 27 sts × 30 rnds = 10 cm / 4" in cable pattern on larger needles, blocked
• 22 sts × 35 rnds = 10 cm / 4" in 2×2 ribbing on smaller needles, blocked

Yarn

• BC Garn Semilla Melange (100% wool, 175 m/50 g, 191 yd/1.76 oz), 6 (7, 8, 8, 9) [10, 11, 11, 12, 13] skeins in the colorway #15 Curry
• Or DK-weight yarn, approx. 1020 (1110, 1260, 1390, 1490) [1620, 1770, 1920, 2060, 2230] m / 1110 (1210, 1380, 1520, 1630) [1770, 1940, 2100, 2260, 2440] yd

Needles

• 4.0 mm / US #6 short and long circular needles for stockinette and cables (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• 3.0 mm / US #2½ short and long circular needles for 2×2 ribbing
• 2.5 mm / US #1½ short circular needles for stockinette inside the neck ribbing
• If not working in magic loop, double-pointed needles in the same sizes for the sleeves

Notions

• 10 stitch markers
• Locking stitch markers for bust shaping (optional)
• 2 cable needles (optional)
• Waste yarn, extra cable, or circular needle for holding sleeve stitches
• 3.5 mm / US E/4 crochet hook
• Darning needle

TECHNIQUES USED

The pattern uses the following techniques: cables, Elizabeth Zimmermann's invisible increases, right- and left-leaning strand increases, knitted and purled cast-ons, German short rows, working in the round, provisional cast-on, stretchy bind-off, crochet slip stitches, picking up stitches, and a folded neckband. Cabling without a cable needle is recommended.
