Kentigern Shawl Knitting Pattern

St Kentigern (more commonly known as St Mungo) is the patron saint of the city of Glasgow. He is supposed to have performed four miracles in the city, which are commemorated in a traditional rhyme and in the city’s coat of arms

Here’s the bird that never flew,
Here’s the tree that never grew,
Here’s the bell that never rang,
Here’s the fish that never swam.

The Kentigern Shawl is a circular or semi-circular shawl incorporating lace patterns representing each of the miracles. The edging is knitted on after the main body of the shawl is complete. Charts and full written instructions are included.

See the uploaded information sheet for sizing information, yarn requirements, needle sizes, etc.
