SPLIT ROCK BUNDLE - THE SPIRIT OF THE PASSAMAQUODDY NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBE
RESOURCE FILE FOR SPLIT ROCK - THE SPIRIT OF QUODDY
Overlooking Passamaquoddy Bay, Split Rock emerges from the beach a short walk from Sipayik, the Passamaquoddy village at Pleasant Point, Maine. It is small, nondescript, and has little if any intrinsic value. Yet Split Rock Is the “Spirit” of the Quoddy Region for the local natives.
Split Rock is located at the Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Reservation Sipayik, located on the shores of Passamaquoddy Bay between the town of Perry and the city of Eastport. The Passamaquoddies are known as "People of the Dawn," and today there is a population of just under 2,000 on the tribal census rolls. The language spoken is a dialect of the Algonquin language: Peskotomuhkati.
