This was a design that was inspired by my first snow day experience in New York City. I had visited NYC many times in the past, but never managed to experience it during a snow day, and since moving here there had been the odd day here and there with a snow shower but nothing significant. But at the end of the first week of January 2017 New York City had its first proper snow fall and it was beautiful. When we finally got home later that afternoon after spending the day out enjoying the weather, I was inspired to cast on a snuggly textured shawl, that would be quick to knit snuggled up nice and warm at home, as well as being warm and cozy enough to wrap up in to go out on a cold snow day!
• Needles – 4.5mm (US 7) needles on Long Cable to accommodate all the stitches at the end.
• Notions – Stitch Markers (not really needed for the pattern but can be used to keep track of stitch counts). I would also suggest a progress keeper for the beginning to help keep track of the right side of your work.
• Gauge – Approx 18 sts/ 4 inches after gentle blocking (although gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you are liking the fabric you are getting).
• Finished Size of Shawl – 180cm (71 inches) on the longest edge & 35cm (14 inches) at the deepest point.
I would recommend knitting the shawl in a Fingering - DK weight range of yarn for best results. I also feel that the shawl is adaptable enough to work with handspun as well.
What you will need:
• Yarn – 3x 50g Sport Yarn - Yarn used in sample is Quince & Co Chickadee in Egret, Aleutian, and Peacock (50g – 166m/182yd).• Needles – 4.5mm (US 7) needles on Long Cable to accommodate all the stitches at the end.

Notes on sizing:
The pattern can be easily adjusted to knit each section longer or shorter as you wish to suit your yardage. There are instructions on how to do that and I have also included a list of percentages showing how much of each colour was used in each section etc so even if you are knitting the pattern in a completely different weight of yarn with different yardage you should still be able to knit it using the percentage proportions.I would recommend knitting the shawl in a Fingering - DK weight range of yarn for best results. I also feel that the shawl is adaptable enough to work with handspun as well.
