Compare, Count & Order to 20
A Calm 5–10 Minute Visual Math Practice for Ages 5–7
This printable system helps children connect picture quantities, ten-frames, and written numerals as they learn to compare, explain, and order amounts to 20.
It is designed for children who can usually compare picture groups to about 8 and are ready to work with closer quantities, numbers to 20, differences, equality, and number order.
Children practice how to:
• Compare close picture groups using more, fewer, and the same amount
• Connect pictures and ten-frames with written numerals
• Compare numbers to 20 using words and symbols
• Use one-to-one matching to find how many more or fewer
• Draw, remove, or find a missing amount to make quantities equal
• Order three quantities and identify the least, middle, and greatest
• Explain and check an answer instead of relying only on speed or symbol memory
A Coordinated Learning Path
The activities follow a consistent five-step routine:
Say → Count → Show or Match → Write → Check
Children may use counting, matching lines, ten-frames, pointing, counters, or a quick drawing to show their thinking. Written symbols are introduced after the relationship is understood.
