Alexandre Guilmant’s Offertory on the Christmas Carols: “Great God!” and “Come Shepherds, Awake!” draws on two traditional French noëls, blending their pastoral charm with the warm harmonic language of the French Romantic organ school. Originally composed as a devotional organ voluntary for the Christmas season, the work moves gracefully between the noble proclamation of “Great God!” and the lively shepherd‑dance character of “Come Shepherds, Awake!”. Its lyrical lines and festive colour make it ideal for Christmas services, offertories, and seasonal concerts.
