Scrappy Christmas Baubles - a christmas ornament PDF knitting pattern

These scrap yarn-friendly Christmas ornaments are fully customizable to add your own messages using stranded knitting techniques.

Start with a belly button/i-cord cast on to begin knitting in the round, drop your own design in the middle, add a Styrofoam ball or polyfill to round it out, and voilà! Ornaments for everyone.

This pattern provides instructions for knitting 3 different sizes of ornaments – 2”, 2.5”, and 3” diameter. I prefer using Smoothfoam styrofoam balls to fill my ornaments. They tend to be a little sturdier and easier to work with. The pattern calls for fingering weight or a light sport weight.

Size:
Small - 2” (5.08 cm) diameter
Medium – 2.5” (6.35 cm) diameter
Large – 3” (7.62 cm) diameter

Gauge:
7 sts = 1 inch (2.54 cm) in Stst

Needles and notions:
5 [8, 10] grams of fingering weight/sock yarn
Yarn scraps for any colorwork
US 2/2.25mm double-point needles or long circular needle for magic loop
1 stitch marker
Stitch holder or waste yarn
Styrofoam ball or polyfill
Optional: wire hanger, flathead pins, sequins, beads – the possibilities are endless
