National Indigenous Veterans Day Package
This project was created to help increase an awareness of National Indigenous Veterans Day in Canada on November 8th. We want our students to study their contributions to a country that didn’t treat them as equals or recognize their efforts and contributions during their time served.
National Indigenous Veterans Day was established in Manitoba in 1994 (originally called Aboriginal Veterans Day) and has since spread across the country.
We hope this package will help spread awareness and understanding of this important day as part of our country’s commitment toward reconciliation.
The poppy artwork was created by Haida artist Bill Bedard. To respect tradition and the artist’s wishes a colour code for the poppy is included to guide guide appropriate and respectful colouring of the poppy.
