- Notes from the Artist: Notes from the Artist: The little abandoned church was founded in 1889 as part of the Wyoming Conference of the Union Methodist Episcopal. The church lies on what is now Pennsylvania State Route 3023 on the western edge of Lathrop Township, about six miles up from the historic Nicholson railway station that served the broader region in its era of coal mining. As the economy dissipated by the mid 20th century, so did the memberships of the UME churches dwindle. The Lathrop church, forsaken in an abandoned region, closed in 1999.
