The Chariot of Fire Made Simple

"A chariot of fire parted them — and Elijah went up by a whirlwind." This Scripture-first guide follows Elijah and Elisha from Gilgal to the Jordan through 2 Kings 2:1-15: the word about Elijah's going, three tests of loyalty at Gilgal, Bethel, and Jericho, the silent sons of the prophets, the Jordan parted by a folded mantle, the astonishing offer — "Ask what I shall do for thee" — and Elisha's request for a double portion, the appearing of the chariot of fire and horses of fire, Elisha's cry "My father, my father," the fallen mantle picked up, and the proof at the river: "Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" Every chapter points to Jesus Christ, who ascended as Elijah ascended and sent the Holy Spirit as the mantle fell. Followed. Parted. Ascended.
