These transition parent letters and parent night handouts give you four letters and three handouts in English and Spanish side by side: an invitation to transition night, a plain words explanation of Indicator 13, what to bring to an IEP meeting, an after the meeting follow up, and three handouts for the night itself.

Why I made this: Parent nights work best when families come in already knowing what the evening is about, and leave with something useful. For Spanish speaking families, that means letters they can read at home. I wrote new letters and handouts in plain words, with English and Spanish on the same page so one copy works for every family.

What's included:

• Cover and teacher how to page

• Letter 1: Invitation to Transition Night, with a return slip

• Letter 2: What Indicator 13 means for your child's IEP

• Letter 3: Getting ready for the IEP meeting

• Letter 4: After the meeting, with a fill in summary

• Handout A: Transition Night at a glance, with key words

• Handout B: A transition timeline, ages 14 to 22

How I use it: Fill in the blanks in both columns, have a fluent Spanish speaker check what you added, and send the full page. Use the handouts at transition night with an interpreter.

Who it's for: families of students ages 14 to 22 who are more comfortable reading in Spanish, and the transition teachers, case managers, and family liaisons who work with them. English and Spanish sit side by side, so bilingual families and staff can read together.

Format: 9 printable pages, US Letter, English and Spanish side by side on every page. General information, not legal or benefits advice. Rules vary by state.

Prefer English only?

Compared with the English version

The same:

• Same topic as Parent Transition Night Kit, written in plain language for families.

Different:

• English and Spanish side by side on every page, so Spanish speaking families and English speaking staff can read together.

• Uses common US Spanish terms for school and benefits (for example preparatoria and su hijo o hija). IEP stays as IEP.

• Written for this edition rather than copied page for page.

• All new letters and handouts. Nothing is copied from the English kit's tear out pages.

• Does not repeat the Transition Family Map, Ages 14 to 21 | English & Spanish IEP Transition Planning pages, so the two work together.
