Most families have a plan for behavior. It just lives in one parent's head and changes depending on how tired everybody is. Writing it down, short and simple, is what makes it work.

What's included:

• Step 1: a few house rules written as "do" statements

• Step 2: routines

• Step 3: noticing the good

• Step 4: planned consequences that are fair and small

• Step 5: a plan for the hard moments

• A fridge summary and a one month check in

How I'd use it:

Do it together as adults first so you agree, then explain it to the kids on a calm night. Keep the rules few. The fridge summary is the page that keeps everybody consistent. Check in after a month and change what is not working. Editable Word file included.

The workbook uses everyday language and real family examples. The consequences page focuses on small, fair, and planned, because the consequences we make up when we are angry are usually too big and hard to stick to. The hard moments step gives the adults a short plan for when a kid is melting down, so everyone handles it the same way. Teachers can share it with families who ask, "What can we do at home?"

Who it's for: Parents and caregivers. Any grade level, including homeschool.

What you download: one printable PDF, 4 pages, US Letter, plus an editable Word file so you can type in it.
