Jessica was a beautiful 24-year-old woman with an ample figure and a playful spirit. She had been dating her boyfriend Mark for two years now, and things were going great. Well, except for one tiny issue - Mark could be a bit of a handful sometimes with his overprotective and controlling tendencies.

One day, Jessica was browsing her phone when she accidentally stumbled upon a rather peculiar app. It was called "Shrink-O-Matic" and claimed the ability to shrink anyone down to miniature size. Curious but skeptical, Jessica downloaded it anyway. To her surprise, the app actually worked on the first try when she shrank her teddy bear to the size of her palm!

Feeling rather giddy and mischievous, Jessica decided to test the app out on her boyfriend. She waited until Mark fell asleep that night before slyly aiming her phone at him and tapping the "Shrink" button. In a flash of blinding light, Mark began to rapidly shrink down, his body compressing until he was no larger than an ant.

"Aww, you're so cute!" Jessica cooed as she picked up the miniscule Mark and placed him on the floor. "I always knew you were a little man!" She liked to tease him sometimes. The tiny Mark glared angrily up at her, waving his arms in an exaggerated manner. "Ooh, are you trying to threaten me?" Jessica giggled. "You're about as intimidating as a mosquito!"

Just then, the front door opened and Jessica's mother Elaine walked in. Jessica quickly scooped up the shrunken Mark and hid him behind her back. "Hey Mom, you're home early!" she said with forced cheer.

Elaine just sighed and shook her head. "Jessica, I told you last week I'd be coming over today to help clean out the garage. Honestly, were you listening at all?" She walked further into the apartment, her high-heeled wooden clogs clicking loudly against the hardwood floors.

Jessica gulped as she realized the tiny, defenseless Mark was still lying unprotected on the ground. "M-Mom, wait!" she cried out, but it was too late. Elaine stepped right where Mark was, her substantial weight coming down on him with a sickening crunch. A tiny splat of blood and viscera was the only indication of what she had just done.

"Eww, what's that sticky mess?" Elaine wrinkled her nose in distaste. She lifted her foot to examine it more closely.

"Uh, I don't know, probably just some spilled juice," Jessica said, trying to keep her voice steady. Inside though, her heart was pounding. She snuck a glance at the smear of blood and guts that used to be her boyfriend. Oh god, what was she going to do now?

"Whatever, I don't want to think about it," Elaine muttered. "Look, I have some errands to run first, but I'll be back later to help you with the garage, alright? Don't forget this time!"

"I won't Mom, I promise!" Jessica called after her, still in a daze. Once she heard the front door close, she collapsed to the floor, tears beginning to stream down her face as the horrible reality sank in. She had shrunken and killed her own boyfriend! What kind of awful person was she?

Jessica knew things would never be the same now. She would have to dispose of Mark's body somehow, and figure out an excuse for him suddenly vanishing. Her life was over. It was all her fault for playing with forces she didn't understand.

Staring blankly at the spot where Mark had been, Jessica began to sob uncontrollably, consumed by grief and remorse. She would have to live with this guilt for the rest of her life. That damn app had seemed like a harmless joke, but now it had destroyed everything.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows through the apartment, Jessica picked herself up and took a deep breath. This was going to be the hardest thing she ever had to do. But one way or another, she would get through it. She had to. There was no going back now.

Jessica started by finding some tissues to clean up the bloodstain, carefully disposing of them afterwards. Then she went to the bathroom to wash her face and collect herself. Looking in the mirror, Jessica hardly recognized the haunted, shell-shocked girl staring back at her. When had it all gone so wrong?

She glanced at her phone, still clutched in her shaking hand. The app's icon seemed to mock her now. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why had she ever used it? Mark was gone because of her. She had murdered him! The weight of that awful realization threatened to crush Jessica.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, she forced herself to push those dark thoughts away for now. She couldn't crack up, not yet. First she needed to cover her tracks. Jessica started by calling Mark's phone, letting it ring until voicemail picked up. "Hey babe, it's me. I'm so so sorry but we need to break up. I know this is sudden but please don't try to contact me. It's for the best. Bye." She hung up, hating herself for the lie but seeing no other choice. At least this way Mark's family wouldn't be alarmed.

That night, Jessica barely slept, her mind still reeling. She kept seeing Mark's angry face as he confronted her about being shrunken. If only she had never found that stupid app! Then again, Mark's controlling behavior had been getting worse and worse. Maybe this was for the best... No, Jessica thought, disgusted with herself. She couldn't really think that, could she? He was dead because of her!

In the end, Jessica decided to just act like everything was normal. She went to work, hung out with friends, and even started dating again after a few months. But deep down, she could never fully escape the guilt and shame of what she had done. That one impulsive, idiotic decision had shattered her life. She would never forgive herself for taking Mark away.

As for the fateful app, Jessica had deleted it that very night. But sometimes, in the dead of night when sleep eluded her, she would see its mocking icon in her mind's eye. A reminder of the monster she had become. And she would deserving cry herself back to sleep, alone with her dark secret. Such was her penance for playing god.
