Cuslett

Cuslett

This cardigan feels like an effortless hug. Cuslett is a vibrant community with a brimming history despite its small size. A modern yet old time feel. Community dances and gatherings with the Newfoundland folk music in the background, passing on the history of it all. I tried to capture this in Cuslett, the cardigan; wearable over a dress, a skirt, jeans, or trousers.

This drop shoulder, modular cardigan is started at the upper back neckline, then the back centre panel is worked down the lower back. Two cable bands are picked up at the shoulders and worked down the lower fronts. Stitches are picked up, and the left side is worked sideways with decreases for the shoulder shaping. Once the width is achieved, the sides are joined with a 3-needle BO and the sleeve stitches are placed on hold. Stitches are picked up for the right side and the right side is worked in a similar manner. Sleeves are worked in the round down to the cuff. Hem cables and ribbing is worked, then the neckband stitches are picked up, the stranded neckband stranded colorwork is knit, then the neckband cables and ribbing is worked. The hem, cuffs, and neckband are all finished with an I-cord for a polished edge.
