Marie Curie is the source of my inspiration. Born in Maria Salomea Skłodowska Poland, she was a brilliant pioneering scientist focused on radioactivity. The picture that I used as inspiration was taken for her 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics.

This half-octagonal shawl starts from the neck down with stockinette, then a textured section inspired by the gathered fabric on the upper arms of Marie’s dress. The border is knit on sideways and has a small amount of lace inspired by the white collar.

The shawl requires two 100g skeins of fingering weight yarn, but could be knit in one color. The body used approximately 400 yards (366m) of yarn and the border used approximately 275 yards (252m) of yarn.

This was the subject of my 9th Annual Tour de France KAL in 2018.
