Sir George Job Elvey (1816–1893) was a prominent English composer and organist known for his contributions to Anglican sacred music. His Easter anthem Christ Is Risen from the Dead, composed in 1860, is a jubilant work based on Romans 6:10. Opening with a triumphant “Christ is risen from the dead, Hallelujah,” the anthem blends lyrical phrasing and rich harmonies to reflect both solemnity and celebration - hallmarks of Elvey’s dignified ceremonial style.
