Registered Manager Effective Leadership Toolkit
Registered Manager Effective Leadership Toolkit
When I first stepped into management, there were plenty of things I knew on paper… but I quickly realised that knowing the role and actually leading a home are two very different things.
So much of becoming a confident manager comes through experience - navigating difficult conversations, shaping culture, managing different personalities, challenging poor practice, supporting a tired team and learning what to do when things don’t quite go to plan.
I created this toolkit by thinking about the things I would have found genuinely valuable when I was finding my feet as a manager. The sort of practical guidance, prompts and experienced perspective I would have wanted to be able to pick up when I was questioning myself or working through a difficult situation.
It’s particularly aimed at new and developing Registered Managers, aspiring Deputies, or managers who perhaps don’t have that experienced person above them to regularly bounce things off.
I obviously can’t sit alongside every manager who might benefit from that support, so this is my way of trying to provide some of it indirectly.
Inside, I’ve brought together practical support around building the culture you want, challenging poor practice, psychological safety, strong personalities, shared accountability, relationships and belonging, staff wellbeing and learning from mistakes.
It won’t tell you how to manage your home, and it certainly won’t replace experience.
Instead, think of it as a bit of an experienced RM development coach on paper - there to help you reflect, consider another perspective and hopefully build confidence in the manager you’re becoming.
It’s essentially the support I would have loved to have had when I first stepped into management — and now I’m in a position to create it for someone else. 🙏🏼
