The Emperor's New Clothes is a famous literary fairytale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.

The story follows a vain emperor who cares for nothing more than fine clothing and grand attire, spending lavishly on his wardrobe while neglecting his duties to his realm. Two swindlers arrive in his city posing as master weavers, claiming they can create a magical fabric that is extraordinarily beautiful—and completely invisible to anyone who is hopelessly stupid or unfit for their position.

Not wanting to admit he cannot see the non-existent cloth, the Emperor pays the weavers a fortune. Unwilling to appear foolish or incompetent, his ministers, court officials, and even the Emperor himself lavishly praise the "invisible" garments. On the day of a grand royal procession, the Emperor proudly marches through the streets stark naked in front of his subjects. The crowd goes along with the pretense until a small child innocently speaks the truth and shouts, "But he hasn't got anything on!" Realizing the truth, the townspeople begin to whisper and laugh, though the embarrassed Emperor holds his head even higher and continues his procession.
