The Fox and the Grapes is a classic Aesop’s fable that highlights the human tendency to rationalize failure.

On a hot day, a hungry fox spots a cluster of ripe, juicy grapes hanging high on a vine. He leaps and jumps repeatedly to reach them, but no matter how high he springs, the grapes remain just out of reach. Exhausted and frustrated by his failed attempts, the fox walks away with his nose in the air, declaring that the grapes were likely sour anyway and not worth having.

Moral: It is easy to despise what you cannot get. (This fable is the origin of the common phrase "sour grapes," describing how people often disparage things they desire simply because they cannot attain them.)
