Traveling through grief, self-reckoning, fatherhood, heartbreak, and the fragile work of piecing a life back together, Chi TheRealist wrestles with what it means to become someone new without erasing who you had to be to survive.

Blending song lyrics, letters, personal reflection, and performance-rooted poetry, the collection blurs the line between album companion, lyric book, memoir, and literary excavation.

Across two major movements—the Fire and the Soot in the Shadows—punctuated by reflective “Breaths” that serve as emotional thresholds, the collection journeys from survival and self-sabotage through grief, reckoning, and brokenness toward accountability, fatherhood, and renewal.

At once confessional and defiant, the work confronts the tension between the man who learned how to survive and the man he must become now that survival is no longer enough.
