In this lesson I wanted to talk about DEPTH and how important this concept is in our abstracts. I will talk about depth in relationship to these five concepts.
1. Layering
2. Texture
3. Color
4. Shapes (forms and lines)
5. Value
Do we want our paintings to speak to others by layers and layers of paint applied with our different tools or to speak by just flat layers to convey a totally different look?
First, it is important to understand what Depth really means in relationship to our abstract paintings. Depth in abstract art refers to the multi-dimensional depth, multi layering (the actual layers) of a painting that go beyond the flat depth, two-dimensional surface of your visual paper or canvas.
