Metallic Deposits, Geological Settings (Geosites); book

Professor Peter Laznicka (born in Prague, 1936) lectured on geology and mineral deposits in Canada and around the world (his short course "Giant Metallic Deposits" was presented in 15 countries). He published 8 technical books on ores and breccias with leading publishers (Elsevier, Springer) and his latest book "Giant Metallic Deposits" saw two editions. After relocating to Australia from Canada, he co-founded Data Metallogenica in Adelaide, an information system on ore deposits represented by almost 4,000 aluminium plates with mounted miniaturized samples of rocks and ores from ore deposits in more than 80 countries (visit www.dmgeode.com). One of the products to assist practical mineral exploration and used by the industry is the compilation "Total Metallogeny-Geosites", the present product.
This is a collection of 241 "Geosites", distinct geological settings than may contain characteristic types of metallic deposits. It is an entirely factual product, guided by the philosophy that no matter what the academic explanation of ore origin is, industrial exploration is the search for equivalents of known, important deposits (the "look alikes" of Muessig). "Geosites" are arranged by geotectonics, from oceans through continental margins, intracontinental settings to rifts, with some anthropogenic settings (this is graphically shown on the accompanying poster) and every "geosite" occupies two A4 facing pages of description and references (with graph) in this 700+ pages book.
The second edition of "Geosites" is from 2004, but not much has changed since as the information is "empirical facts", sheltered from genetic interpretation of the day. As this is an open source (Peter Laznicka is the copyright owner), updating, customization, addition of new information by the user is allowed and encouraged (with acknowledgment to the source, as is the standard practice).
