Lesson_75_Jacobs_Family_Moves
The brothers return to Canaan and drop a bombshell on 130-year-old Jacob: 'Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is
ruler of all Egypt.' The shock is so severe that Jacob almost faints (Gen 45:26). But when he sees the royal
Egyptian wagons Joseph sent, his spirit revives. God speaks to Jacob in a night vision at Beersheba, telling
him not to be afraid to leave the Promised Land, because God will make him into a great nation down in
Egypt. The entire family-70 people in total-packs up everything they own and migrates to the lush Egyptian
Nile Delta region known as Goshen. Today, we will study the biological shock of sudden good news, the
massive logistics of relocating an entire tribe, and the theological significance of leaving the Promised Land.
