About the piece

Vincit Qui Patitur - "he conquers who endures" - is a brief, declamatory fanfare scored for fourteen brass and four percussion. It is a full-ensemble brass flourish, vigorous in attack and unhurried in arrival. Effective as concert-opener music, it is equally suited to processionals, academic ceremonies, and any occasion that calls for a "sense of arrival."

Scored for 4 Trumpets in B♭, 4 Horns in F, 2 Trombones, Bass Trombone, 2 Euphoniums, and Tuba, with Timpani, Snare Drum, Crash Cymbals, and Bass Drum.

Performance notes

The fanfare is conceived for a university-to-professional brass ensemble. Lines move with considerable independence across the choirs; balance and ensemble unanimity at the larger downbeats deserve specific rehearsal attention. The first trumpet part extends to written E♭ above the staff and should be assigned accordingly.
