Tiki-Tiki: The Gentle Giant of Pintuyan
Tiki-Tiki: The Gentle Giant of Pintuyan is a heartwarming children’s picture book set in the beautiful coastal community of Pintuyan, Southern Leyte, along Sogod Bay.
Eight-year-old Lito loves spending time at sea with his grandfather, Lolo Narding. One special morning, they encounter a magnificent whale shark with a star-like cluster of white spots near its dorsal fin. Lito names the gentle giant Tiki-Tiki and soon learns an important lesson: loving wild animals means respecting their freedom, keeping a safe distance, and allowing them to live naturally in their ocean home.
When a storm washes plastic and rubbish into the bay, Lito realizes that Tiki-Tiki and other marine creatures need help. With Lolo Narding and their community, he takes action to clean and protect the sea.
Filled with colorful illustrations, Filipino coastal scenery, family warmth, and meaningful lessons, Tiki-Tiki: The Gentle Giant of Pintuyan inspires young readers to appreciate marine life, care for the environment, and understand that even small acts of kindness can help create a cleaner ocean and a brighter tomorrow.
