SKILL LEVEL

INTERMEDIATE. Crocheters looking to follow this pattern should know how to:

• Read a crochet pattern - There is a video tutorial for this crochet tote bag pattern and the video has the short hand instructions on the side. It will still be helpful to know how to read a crochet pattern as the video is NOT intended to replace the written pattern. 
• Work the basic stitches: Chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and extended half double crochet.
• Work in closed and turned Rounds (including understanding the slip stitch to close rounds doesn't count as a stitch) 
• Skip stitches
• Place or start a stitch “in the previous stitch” or be willing to learn
• Working into a chain 1 (the “chain 1 eye”)
• Creating base chains for handle or handles off of existing work and work into the bottom of chains (similar to working a border)
• Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog) or be willing to learn.
• Extended Half Double Crochet 2 Together (ehdc2tog) and Extended Half Double Crochet 3 Together (ehdc3tog). These stitches will likely be new to you.

This is NOT an Advanced Beginner pattern! This is an Intermediate pattern, which requires knowledge of several stitches and techniques that may be new to you. However, Advanced Beginners who are willing to push their skill level should be able to get through with the robust and recommended PDF that comes with step-by-step photos and the video tutorial.

SIZE

The bag, without handles, is approximately:

Width: 11 inches

Length: 12 inches

Single Handle Height: Approximately 12 inches from top of bag to shoulder.

Two Handles Height: Approximately 10 inches from top of bag to shoulder

YARN REQUIRED

You will need Medium (4) cotton yarn. You will need approximately: 190 grams / 6.6 ounces / 352 yards per bag made, regardless of handle type.

Note: If you alter the bag in any way, your yarn usage will not match these requirements.

YARN USED: Lion Brand’s 24/7 Cotton in colorways Bay Leaf (green) and Ecru (white). This yarn is 100% mercerized cotton. 100 grams / 186 yards per skein. You will need 2 skeins per bag made.

• 4 mm (G-6) hook 
• Tapestry needle
