This pdf sock pattern includes both charts and written instructions for the lace. Instructions for top down construction, including the picot edge and slip-stitch heel are written.

The River Idle played an important part in my teenage life; the gentle babbling waters providing a source of solace and calm. The pattern in these socks reminds me of the time I spent on Carr Bridge, watching the River Idle flowing away from me, rippling over the streaming river weed.

River Idle is knitted from the top down, starting with a crochet provisional cast-on and picot edge. The sock is worked with a lace border on the leg. The ripple lace pattern on the instep can also be used as an option to give a longer leg length. Information is included to allow adjustment of the length of the Eye of the Partridge slip-stitch heel flap for a good fit at the heel and in the gusset section.
