Quick and easy, the Mini Colorwork Pumpkin is perfect for Fall, whether you want to decorate for Halloween or Thanksgiving or the whole season long. Make several in different colors and yarn weights, and choose from 6 different charted designs.
1 skein each of 2 colors of 50g fingering weight yarn will be more than enough yarn to make two pumpkins.
Skills Needed: Working with two colors; working in the round; reading colorwork charts; trapping floats; increasing; decreasing; i-cord, duplicate stitch.
Size: Diameter: Approx. 3 in. [7.6 cm]; Height: Approx. 3 ½ in. [8.9 cm].
Yarn: 2 skeins Fingering Weight yarn, approximately 100 yds each – 1 skein each of two colors. Mini pumpkin will use far less yarn than this.
Needles & Gauge:
Needles: US size 1 (2.25 mm) double pointed needles.
Gauge: 34 sts=4" [10 cm] in charted pattern stitch. Gauge is not terribly important for this pattern, except to determine amount of yarn and size of needle.
Experiment with heavier yarn and larger needle sizes to create larger pumpkins. Be sure to work at a tighter gauge than normal (try using a needle one or two sizes smaller than recommended for the yarn you are using) so the fiberfill does not show through your fabric.
Other Materials: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, tape measure, polyester fiberfill (one small bag).
