Your child is dysregulated. You’re overwhelmed too. What do you do next?

When your child is having a meltdown, shouting, refusing, crying or completely overwhelmed, it can be incredibly hard to stay calm yourself.

You may know what you’re supposed to do — pause, co-regulate, stay calm — but in the moment your own nervous system can be overloaded too.

You might feel:

  • triggered
  • overstimulated
  • frustrated
  • guilty afterwards
  • unsure how to stop things escalating
  • like you’re expected to hold everything together

This session is about supporting you, so you can respond more intentionally when things get hard.

Let’s look at your side of the regulation equation

During this focused 60-minute session, we’ll explore what happens for you in difficult moments and identify practical strategies that may help you regulate, pause, respond and recover more effectively.

We can look at:

  • what tends to trigger you
  • what happens in your body when you’re becoming overwhelmed
  • how your child’s dysregulation affects you
  • how escalation can build between parent and child
  • ways to create a pause before reacting
  • realistic regulation strategies that fit your life
  • repair after difficult moments
  • what to do when both of you are overwhelmed

About Kamilah

Hi, I’m Kamilah 👋🏾

I’m a Registered Mental Health Nurse and ADHD Specialist with experience supporting children, young people and families.

Through my clinical work and conversations with parents, I hear the same thing repeatedly:

“I know my child needs me to stay calm… but what do I do when I’m overwhelmed too?”

That’s why I created the Parent Regulation Reset — to give parents a supportive space to understand their own responses and leave with practical strategies they can actually use.

Your child may have ADHD, another neurodevelopmental need, be awaiting assessment, or simply be showing behaviours that are difficult to manage.

Does my child attend the session?

No. This is a parent-focused session so we can concentrate on what happens for you, your triggers, your responses and practical strategies that may help.

Is this therapy?

No. This is parent support and psychoeducation. It is not psychotherapy, counselling, medical treatment or a crisis service.

What can we talk about during the session?

We can explore things like feeling triggered, overwhelmed or overstimulated during meltdowns, shouting or conflict, struggling to stay calm, guilt after difficult moments, co-regulation, repair and practical ways to reduce escalation.

What will I receive after the session?

You’ll receive a personalised Parent Regulation Plan along with follow-up notes or resources based on what we discussed.

What happens after I purchase?

After payment, you’ll be taken to your client area where you can book your 60-minute appointment and complete a short pre-session questionnaire.

Where does the session take place?

Online. Once you book your appointment, you’ll receive the details you need to join the session.

What if I need more support afterwards?

If further support would be helpful, we can discuss the most appropriate next step, including another parent support session or other resources.

Can this help if I feel guilty about how I react?

Yes. Many parents feel guilt or shame after difficult moments. The purpose of the session is not to judge you, but to help you understand what happens for you, identify patterns and build practical ways to respond differently.

What if my family is currently in crisis?

This session is not suitable for urgent or crisis support. If there is an immediate risk to you, your child or someone else, please use appropriate emergency or crisis services.
