- Notes from the Artist: In the early morning hours, I caught a glimpse of a green heron concealed in the trees. He had a short stubby body with a bull neck. His feet wrapped around a slim branch. He was hunched over, staring down at the water. His penetrating eyes gazed down both sides of a long slim beak, which he uses to spear fish. This bird had a very intense feeling and look. It reminded me of professional boxers staring down their opponents before a match. Suddenly, he launched from his perch and dove into the water. A miss. Oh, well, try again. My concept, while observing his behavior, was to capture his intensity and my own feelings. When I post-processed the image, I isolated him, giving emphasis to his body language. The color red for me indicates an aggressive feeling. Therefore, I gave the background an intense red fog. Of course, the twigs and his feet became red as well as his chest. Artistic license!
