The footfalls began anew moments later, steady but muffled as if by stockinged feet. Sarah tossed restlessly, wrestling logic and intuition. Perhaps the old timbers settled naturally...yet the pacing held an unmistakable rhythm, unlike the house's usual night noises.

A vision flashed through her mind—a pale figure flitting back and forth above the canopy, moonlight glinting off dark eyes observing her restless form below. Sarah bolted upright with a strangled gasp, flicking on the bedside lamp with trembling hands.

Objects hovered suspended before crashing to the floor. Books flew from shelves as unseen fists pounded the walls, the entity's rage palpable. Sarah bolted upright gasping, terror freezing her limbs as an unearthly howl split the air.
