Seven Sisters

When a designer friend shows you her lovely glove pattern and suggests you use the cable for socks, well what do you do but make socks?

These toe-up socks feature a large cable which runs up both sides of the foot and is then reflected in the back of the leg. If you’re braver than me, it would be a good candidate for working the cables without a cable needle.

Sizes - measured around mid-foot

  • Small - 7" (17.75cm)
  • Medium - 8" (20.25cm)
  • Large - 9" (22.75cm)
  • X Large – 10” (25.5cm)

Gauge

36 sts and 44 rounds = 4" (10cm) in stocking stitch in the round

Yarn Requirements

100g/400m 4ply/fingering weight sock yarn. Any that gives gauge should be suitable. Sample was knit in The Fibre Co. Amble

Please be aware that the lovely yarn I used in the sample has a lower yardage per 100g than some yarns, so for larger feet you may need to use a second skein. For the sample, I used 98g (348 yards/318m) for a 10” (25.5cm) long foot in size M.

Needles and Notions

  • 2.25mm (US1) circular needles, or dpns
  • cable needle (optional)
  • stitch markers
  • tapestry needle for weaving in the ends

Instructions for the cables are both charted and fully written out so you can choose which you prefer.
