The original painting, held by the Metropolitan Museum in New York, is by the 15th century Sienese painter, Sano di Pietro (Ansano di Pietro di Mencio). Mid-15th century, egg tempera and gold leaf. It is printed on a metal base using a process that fuses the image directly to the surface.
