Maya Middlemiss, founder of Remote Work Europe, has been working from home since the previous millennium!
She built a distributed team before the term existed, moved her family from London to Spain for purely lifestyle reasons, hired people from around the world, and then transitioned her work to full-time freelancing and solopreneurship as an author and podcaster.
She figured out all this stuff the hard way, from the remote team leadership to the technology, because there was no Remote Work Europe back then.
All of the “how-to” stuff was figureoutable. It always is.
But what Maya really lacked throughout those first decades was a sense of community.
Suspended between the suburban Yummy Mummies and the Career Commuters, even moving to Spain didn’t solve that problem.
Because although she met many wonderful people from all over the world, back in the 2010s hardly anyone worked the way she did.
All that changed though when the whole world unexpectedly got a taste of remote working, often in very challenging circumstances, and Maya pivoted her role to help people survive, and even thrive, in this strange new world.
And as that world unlocked and everyone explored the new normal, she found growing numbers of people who were excited by the possibilities before them, now that they knew they could work in a location-independent way.
Remote Work Spain was where it all began… And now, Remote Work Europe Connected, is the key to the future!
