Preparing for your Responsible Individual interview can feel daunting - particularly when you know your stuff, but also know nerves can sometimes get in the way of showing it.

That's actually why I created this playbook.

I'm a current Responsible Individual and originally put this together for myself while preparing for my own Ofsted RI interview. I knew I had the knowledge and experience, but I wanted something that would help me organise everything in my head, practise retrieving that knowledge under pressure and make sure nerves didn't get the better of me on the day.

I've personally found the process of creating and using it extremely helpful in building my own confidence, so I decided to make it available completely FREE through Forshaw Care Consultancy in the hope that it might help somebody else in the same position.

Rather than giving you scripted answers to memorise, the playbook is designed to help you understand what Ofsted may actually be exploring through its questions, organise your thinking and connect your answers back to your own knowledge and real experiences.

It covers areas including governance and oversight, safeguarding assurance, Regulation 44 and 45 monitoring, quality of care, leadership and management, safer recruitment, allegations and complaints, notifications, professional challenge and the important distinction between operational management and strategic RI oversight.

Throughout the playbook you'll find Ofsted-style practice questions, mental anchors, key areas to consider and practical examples that can help you practise answering naturally rather than trying to remember pages of information.

Because that's what I wanted from it myself.

I didn't need something to teach me how to be an RI. I needed something that helped me organise what I already knew, identify anything I needed to strengthen and build enough confidence that I could access that knowledge when the pressure was on.

The aim isn't to give anyone the “perfect” interview answer.

It's to help you go into the conversation able to think clearly, trust what you know and confidently demonstrate your own experience and approach to RI oversight.

If it helps somebody else feel even a little more prepared and confident going into their interview, then it's done what I created it to do.
