Create your own cute “Pixie Sewing Kit” using my pattern.

***** This is a PDF pattern, not a finished product*****

Skill level: Intermediate
A knowledge of making and applying bias binding/tape would be useful but not essential as I provide detailed instructions on this.

With two different versions to choose from, this useful little sewing kit is perfect for keeping all your sewing essentials handy when you're away from home. It has a pincushion, pocket, needle keeper and a place to store your reels of thread. For crafting on the go!

Finished Size (approximately):
Small: 5'' x 4'', Unfolded: 9 ½'' x 5''
Large: 5 ½'' x 4 ½'', Unfolded: 12'' x 5 ½''

You will receive 10 pages of step by step instructions with helpful tips, diagrams, photo's and templates. Instructions for both the simple version and the larger patchwork version with zip pocket included.

You will need:

Cotton fabric:
  • 3 different prints for exterior and pincushion (2 different prints and 20 scraps of printed cotton for patchwork version).
  • Complementary or matching print for pocket.
  • Pocket binding: Plain or contrasting print.
  • Bias binding/tape: Plain or contrasting print, this is cut diagonally across fabric at 45 degrees (strips of fabric can be joined).
Linen or cotton:
For the lining, pocket lining and pincushion base.

Cotton wadding or fusible fleece.

Stuffing: For the pincushion. I use pure wool as it doesn't blunt your pins but you can use a polyester fibrefill.

Felt: For the needle keeper.

Elastic: For the thread reel and pincushion holder. I used ¼'' width.

Interfacing for lining and pocket: I use a medium weight fusible interfacing (woven or non-woven).

Closures: A small piece of Velcro or a snap fastener (either plastic or metal), 7'' or longer nylon zip for larger version.

Equipment and tools:
Thread, scissors, quilting ruler, rotary cutter and cutting mat, iron, wonder clips/binding clips, pins, trick marker/disappearing fabric pen, fabric glue (optional), fine hand sewing needle for stitching on the binding and sewing up the pincushion, corner and edge shaper, snap fastener punching tool (optional).
