The Pinnacle Valley Cowl is a great introduction to modified Fusion Knitting, a reversible knitting technique that creates a mirrored motif on each side of the fabric. Creating the peaks and valleys on this cowl are great practice of the two most common cables used in Fusion Knitting!
I have heard other designers say that the yarn inspires their design – this had never happened to me until I had Julie Asselin’s Fino in my hands. The very round yarn construction meant that the double thick cables formed in Fusion Knitting would be extra squishy. The colours (Cobalt & Echo) with their high contrast called for a graphic motif. This is a cowl for snuggling into.
My daughter & I love to spend time at Pinnacle Valley Farm, an equestrian facility about 6 hours from home and close to where Julie Asselin dyes her beautiful yarn. This area of Quebec, at the edge of the Appalachian Mountains, features stunning ridgelines and lush valleys.
This cowl is adjustable in circumference and height. It can be worked in any weight of yarn. Smooth yarns in solid/tonal colours are recommended.
