#47 : The Great Pumpkin | A 5E Halloween One-Shot Adventure for 2-3 Players
The harvest is over. The patch is awake. And something enormous just crawled out of the ground.
The Great Pumpkin is a complete 5E one-shot Halloween adventure for 2-3 players, designed to run in 2-3 hours with zero preparation. A farmer planted his pumpkin patch over an ancient sealed crypt. The roots grew deep. The largest pumpkin found what was buried there — and absorbed it. Now it commands an army of animated constructs called Jackers that clamp onto living people's skulls and turn them into controlled Hosts. The farmer himself has been absorbed into the creature's mass at its crown. His wife believes he is still alive. She is right. What happens to him is up to your players.

The adventure opens mid-crisis with no slow burn — players fight their way through an overrun town, push through the infected outskirts, navigate the pumpkin patch, and confront the Great Pumpkin at the center of the field. At the climax, they face a genuine choice: attempt a harder fight to save the farmer, or take the faster path and accept that he dies. Neither outcome is wrong. The jack-o'-lantern origin ending works either way.

Book 1 of the Shadows of Valdrus Halloween Series:
The Great Pumpkin stands alone as a complete adventure — no other books required. But it is also the first chapter of something larger. The evil buried beneath the pumpkin patch was not destroyed when the Great Pumpkin fell. It was only disturbed. The series continues:
- Book 1: The Great Pumpkin (You are here)
- Book 2: Below the Field
- Book 3: The Tall Man
- Book 4: The Three Sisters
- Book 5: All Hallows' Tower
All five books are available individually or as the Complete Halloween Adventure Collection: Shadows of Valdrus.
Perfect For:
- DMs who want a Halloween session ready to run tonight
- Small groups of 2-3 players who want a complete story in one sitting
- Tables that want horror with moral weight, not just monster fights
- New DMs — the zero-prep format and ready-made characters mean you can run this the night you receive it
Pick it up. The field is waiting.
