Under The Southern Cross

Under The Southern Cross is a celebration of living in New Zealand, under the Crux constellation - the Southern Cross.

The night skies here are amazing - the stunning Milky Way galaxy with the Southern Cross at its southern end is visible most clear nights.

The cowl is crocheted as a triangular piece from the bottom tip up and then folded and seamed around the back of the neck. It can be made in any size and can be left unseamed to create a triangular shawl.

Yarn: Hand-dyed Knit Picks Bare Peruvian Highland Wool Fingering Weight; 100% wool; 436 yards (398 m)/ 100 g. 1 skein.

The sample used 69 g, 300 yards (274 m) in a one-of-a-kind hand-dyed colourway (excluding the tassel).

Hook: US G/6, 4mm.

Gauge: 13 treble stitches X 5 rows = 4 X 4 inches, after blocking.

Exact gauge is not crucial for this project.

The cowl can be made with any lightweight yarn and an appropriately sized hook.

Finished Size: The sample measured 40 inches across the top and 20 inches from the top to the point of the triangle (102 X 51 cm) before seaming the back of the neck. After seaming the cowl has a circumference of 27 inches (68 cm)
