STRANGERS – Do Not Follow Strangers by Bro H
[Verse 1] Before Israel crossed Jordan, Yahweh named the nations there: “Make no covenant or marriage; do not learn the gods they bear. Break their pillars, cut their groves, and cast their graven work away; For their daughters turn your children from Me, teaching them to stray.” Yahweh chose Israel for Himself, a people holy and set apart; Foreign gods and foreign customs had no place within their heart. Justice for the lawful sojourner never canceled His command: Israel must remain the people He appointed in the land. [Chorus] Do not follow strangers; do not bring their altars in. Do not entertain strange doctrines that excuse and shelter sin. Show mercy to the sojourner; let justice guard the gate. Do not call confusion mercy, or rebellion faith. Neighbor, brother, foreigner—the Law defines the line. Yahweh called His people holy: “You shall be wholly Mine.” [Verse 2] At the seventh-year release, the neighbor and brother stood as one; What was owed by Israel’s kinsman was released when it was done. From the foreigner they could exact; the Law preserved the line; Israel’s throne belonged to brethren chosen by Yahweh’s design. Ammon and Moab were forbidden from the congregation’s gate; They withheld the bread and water and hired Balaam in their hate. “Do not seek their peace or welfare all your days forever.” Residence among His people did not make the stranger a brother. [Verse 3] When Judah came from exile, priests and rulers led the sin; Holy seed was mixed with the peoples they were told to not let in. “We have trespassed against our God and taken foreign wives.” Ezra called for separation; confession had to govern lives. Foreign wives and children were put away; repentance followed by the deed. Nehemiah cleared the mixed multitude to guard the holy seed. Their children spoke the tongue of Ashdod, proof the house had turned away; He called those marriages “great evil” and commanded them obey. [Verse 4] “If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or stretched out our hands to a foreign god, Shall not God search this out? For He knows every secret of the heart.” Israel trusted foreign altars, foreign marriages, and foreign powers; Then strangers drained their strength and strangers burned their towns and towers. Foreign armies ate the harvest, broke the walls, and ruled the land; What they welcomed in rebellion rose as judgment from God’s hand. [Verse 5] Jesus said His sheep would flee a voice they did not know; Whoever climbed another way had entered as a foe. “I am the Door, the Good Shepherd; I give My life for sheep.” The Pharisees cast the healed man out—their fruits exposed deceit. Athens lived to hear new doctrine, every strange and novel thing; They called Christ and resurrection a foreign god that Paul would bring. Now covenant truth sounds strange in the churches of our day; Denominational traditions lead their hearers far astray. [Bridge] “Saved forever” without obedience; secret rapture; Law denied; Inheritance without repentance; every boundary set aside. They call covenant truth foreign while their strange traditions reign; The congregation fills with strangers and the holy order wanes. Hospitality is not confusion; kindness does not blend the holy seed. Mercy never grants permission to reject what God decreed. Receive the traveler needing shelter; deal with every man in truth; Guard the congregation’s order; do not open it to abuse. [Final Chorus] Do not follow strangers; do not bring their altars in. Do not entertain strange doctrines that excuse and shelter sin. Show mercy to the sojourner; let justice guard the gate. Do not call confusion mercy, or rebellion faith. Neighbor, brother, foreigner—the Law defines the line. Yahweh called His people holy: “You shall be wholly Mine.”
