UK Vinted & eBay Resale Profit Tracker (2026-27) — Real Profit After Fees + £1,000 Allowance & Platform Reporting Check
Flipping charity-shop finds, car-boot bargains or clearance stock on Vinted, eBay, Depop or Etsy? It's easy to know what you sold something for and much harder to know what you actually made once you take off what it cost, the platform's cut and the postage.
This tracker does that sum for every item, and keeps an eye on the two HMRC rules resellers ask about most: the £1,000 trading allowance (UK tax year) and the platform reporting thresholds of 30 sales or about £1,700 (calendar year, per platform).
What it does
- Profit per item: enter what you paid and what it sold for. It works out the seller fees, then profit, margin and days to sell.
- Editable fee settings: fee settings for Vinted, eBay (private and business sellers), Etsy and Depop are pre-filled from each platform's own help pages, with links. If a fee changes, edit one cell. If you know the exact fee from your receipt, type it in and it's used instead.
- Unsold stock list: everything you haven't sold yet appears on its own sheet, with how long you've held it and how much money is tied up in stock. Anything held for 90 days or more is flagged.
- Trading allowance check: gross income from items you bought to resell, against the £1,000 allowance, with an UNDER / APPROACHING / OVER flag. It also gives an indicative comparison of the allowance against your actual costs (you can only use one).
- Personal items kept separate: mark your own unwanted things as "Own personal item". They're left out of the allowance figure but still count toward each platform's reporting total, as they do in real life.
- Platform reporting check: sales count and money received for each platform in the calendar year, compared with the 30-sale and ~£1,700 thresholds.
- Month-by-month table and chart of gross sales and profit across the tax year.
What's included
- UK-Resale-Profit-Tracker.xlsx: the blank tracker, ready to use.
- UK-Resale-Profit-Tracker-EXAMPLE.xlsx: the same file filled with clearly labelled made-up data, so you can see how it works.
- A Google Sheets guide (works in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice).
Good to know
- It is not tax advice. It is a record-keeping and awareness tool. Whether your selling counts as trading depends on your circumstances, and being reported by a platform is not a tax bill. Check GOV.UK or an accountant for your situation.
- Fee figures are estimates based on the platforms' published fees (checked 24 October 2026). Your platform's own receipts are always right.
- It doesn't calculate your income tax or file anything for you.
- It uses plain formulas only: no macros, no add-ons, no subscription.
