A fundamental purpose of The Rescuers Guide To Behavioral First Aid training program is to assist you in understanding the process of behavior and it’s escalation; and for you to recognize that people do not act out in a vacuum.
Any EMT/Paramedic or other rescuer who intervenes with a potentially violent individual must realize that his/her behavior has a tremendous impact on the acting out person.

By the end of this course you will feel more confident and comfortable in managing emotional distress during these types of emergencies. You will be able to avoid worsening the crisis, facilitate patients getting the help they need and ultimately , it is hoped it’s use will reduce violence and prevent tragedy.

The first part of this guide is to direct the rescuers in how to manage his/her own emotions first. The second part we will learn the escalation behaviors seen by professional rescuers on an almost daily basis and provide some training and education so you begin to develop the skills needed to deescalate and respond appropriately during a crisis.
