The Power Gifts

In The Power Gifts, Michael E.B. Maher examines the three gifts of the Holy Spirit that demonstrate God’s supernatural power: special faith, gifts of healings, and the working of miracles. He first distinguishes three levels of faith: saving/daily living faith (given to all believers), ministry gift faith (for one’s role in the body), and special faith (the faith of the Holy Spirit Himself). Special faith manifests as a supernatural boldness, turning the believer into “another man” temporarily, and operates only as the Spirit wills.

Gifts of healings enable believers to carry God’s healing power, often resulting in instant healings of multitudes. Unlike healing by faith (which relies on the pray-er’s faith and is for one-on-one ministry), this gift relies more on the recipient’s faith. Satan cannot counterfeit healing.

The working of miracles includes getting people born again, casting out demons, baptizing with the Holy Spirit, and raising the dead. Apostles and evangelists primarily operate in this gift. Maher emphasizes that the “greater works” Jesus promised are the new birth and the baptism of the Holy Spirit—eternal miracles.

The book provides biblical examples (Elijah, Peter, Paul, Philip) and practical guidelines, warning that unbelief and unforgiven sin hinder healing, while urging believers to test all manifestations against Scripture. It concludes with personal testimonies.
