This quick, practical reflection tool is designed to help Early Years practitioners step back, take a fresh look at their environment and notice where children are being given meaningful opportunities to read, play, communicate and talk.

Rather than asking you to redesign your whole setting, this mini audit encourages you to:

Pause. Notice. Choose one small change.

Inside, you’ll reflect on three key areas:

READ

Are books, stories, print and vocabulary woven meaningfully through your provision?

PLAY

Does your environment give children something purposeful to explore, discover, imagine and communicate about?

TALK

Are everyday interactions creating genuine opportunities for children to be noticed, responded to and involved in rich back-and-forth conversation?
